Why P3 is the year that catches families out
Between P2 and P3 the English paper changes shape. Comprehension moves from literal retrieval to inference. Composition asks for a plot with a middle, not just a beginning and an end. Many children who were comfortable in P2 suddenly start losing marks, and the usual response — more worksheets — rarely helps, because the problem is technique rather than effort.
How we teach it
Every lesson works through real examples on screen, with pupils attempting the question before the method is shown. Because classes are capped at six, the teacher can see each child’s written attempt and correct the reasoning, not just the answer. Marks improve when a pupil understands why a particular answer earns credit — that understanding transfers to questions they have never seen.

My child is coping in school. Is this class still useful?
Yes. P3 is the year the syllabus introduces open-ended comprehension and longer compositions. Pupils who are coping now often start to struggle in P4 when the demands increase. This class builds the technique early.
How much writing is involved?
Pupils write in most lessons, usually a paragraph or a planned composition. Written work is marked with comments rather than a bare grade, so your child knows exactly what to change.
