The P5 turning point
Up to P4, a diligent child can do well by learning facts thoroughly. P5 changes that. Questions place familiar concepts in unfamiliar settings, and ask pupils to reason rather than recall. Families often notice a drop in marks despite the child working just as hard as before — the effort has not fallen, the demand has changed.
How we teach it
Each topic is taught alongside the reasoning pattern it is tested with. Pupils practise identifying what a question is really asking before attempting an answer, then write and refine their explanation. Experimental design gets attention every week rather than being treated as a separate unit, because it appears throughout the paper.

Questions parents ask
My child did well in P4 but is struggling now. What changed?
P5 introduces questions set in unfamiliar contexts, so recall alone stops being enough. Pupils must apply a concept to a situation they have not seen. It is a genuine change in skill, and it is teachable.
How do you handle experiment questions?
We work through experimental setups every week — identifying the variable being changed, what is kept the same, and what the results actually show. This is the single most common source of lost marks at P5.
Is this class suitable for a child aiming for a top score?
Yes. Stronger pupils typically need refinement in explanation precision rather than more content, and small classes make that individual attention possible.
